Photoemission study of the metallic state of lightly electron-doped SrTiO3

چکیده
The behavior of the metallic state of lightly electron-doped SrTiO3 has been studied using angle-integrated ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS) and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). Two states in the bulk band gap of stoichiometric SrTiO3 are shown by doping electron carriers: a metallic state with a sharp Fermi cutoff and a broad state centered at 1.3 eV below the Fermi level. By slight oxygen exposure, the UPS spectra showed a rapid decrease in the spectral intensity of the metallic state followed by a sudden energy shift of the valence band. These changes are explained in terms of the band-bending effect due to the formation of a thick charge depletion layer when the adsorbed oxygen atoms attract the free electrons from the bulk to the surface. Normal-emission photoelectron spectra before the oxygen exposure showed that the spectral intensity of the metallic state is remarkably enhanced at the photon energy of 28 and 45 eV whereas its energy position is almost independent of the photon energy. Off-normal-emission spectra showed that the spectral intensity of the metallic state is drastically reduced with increasing emission angle. From a comparison between the calculated band structure and ARPES results, we conclude that the metallic state is qualitatively explained by the Fermi liquid behavior based on the band theory. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Strong energy-momentum dispersion of phonon-dressed carriers in the lightly doped band insulator SrTiO3
Much progress has been made recently in the study of the effects of electron-phonon (el-ph) coupling in doped insulators using angle resolved photoemission (ARPES), yielding evidence for the dominant role of el-ph interactions in underdoped cuprates. As these studies have been limited to doped Mott insulators, the important question arises how this compares with doped band insulators where simi...
متن کاملAnomalous correlation effects and unique phase diagram of electron-doped FeSe revealed by photoemission spectroscopy
FeSe layer-based superconductors exhibit exotic and distinctive properties. The undoped FeSe shows nematicity and superconductivity, while the heavily electron-doped KxFe2-ySe2 and single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3 possess high superconducting transition temperatures that pose theoretical challenges. However, a comprehensive study on the doping dependence of an FeSe layer-based superconductor is still l...

Mn-doped SrTiO(3.0), when synthesized free of impurities, is a paramagnetic insulator with interesting dielectric properties. Since delocalized charge carriers are known to promote ferromagnetism in a large number of systems via diverse mechanisms, we have looked for the possibility of any intrinsic, spontaneous magnetization by simultaneous doping of Mn ions and electrons into SrTiO3 via oxyge...

We present experimental photoemission and inverse photoemission spectra of SrTiO3−δ representing electron doped d 0 systems. Photoemission spectra in presence of electron doping exhibit prominent features arising from electron correlation effects, while the inverse photoemssion spectra are dominated by spectral features explainable within single-particle approaches. We show that such a spectral...

Despite rapid recent progress, controlled dopant incorporation and attainment of high mobility in thin films of the prototypical complex oxide semiconductor SrTiO3 remain problematic. Here, analytical scanning transmission electron microscopy is used to study the local atomic and electronic structure of Nb-doped SrTiO3 both in ideally substitutionally doped bulk single crystals and epitaxial th...
